Buying a webkit gives you the right to use its design. It doesn't give you ownership of it.
What your licence lets you do
You can:
- use each webkit licence for one website, on one domain
- edit your own words, photos, logo, prices and contact details in your dashboard
- choose between the kit's included colour palettes
- keep full ownership of all the content you supply
You can't:
- resell, share or give the kit's design to anyone else
- use one licence for a second website (add another website in your dashboard instead)
- remove Webty's small footer credit while you're subscribed
- claim the design as your own work or submit it to template marketplaces
How long it lasts:
- While subscribed: your licence covers each of your websites that is live, paused, or being set up or built.
- If you leave: take a local copy and you keep a permanent licence to use that copy for the same business and domain, without the footer credit. Local copies cost £199.
- Archived and not restored: the licence ends after 90 days.
Customisation: Webty doesn't change kit code or design for individual customers. Changes are limited to the content fields and options built into your kit.
Other businesses may use the same kit. Your content, photos and colours make it yours, but the underlying design is shared.
The full terms
1. Meanings
- The kit means everything Webty supplies to make your website: its design, layouts, code, components, example text and the stock images in its library.
- Your content means everything you supply: text, photos, logos, prices and other details.
2. Your licence
While your website plan is active, we give you a non-exclusive licence to use the kit for one website for your business, on the domain connected to that plan and any domains that redirect to it. You can't transfer this licence to anyone else.
3. Who owns what
- Webty, or the people we license from, own the kit and all the rights in it. Nothing in these terms transfers ownership to you.
- You own your content. You give us permission to use it to provide your website, as set out in the Terms of sale.
4. Stock images
Images from your kit's stock library are created by Webty using AI image tools. You may use them only on your Webty website and in a local copy of it.
5. Fonts and open-source parts
Some parts of the kit, such as its fonts, are published under their own open licences, for example the SIL Open Font Licence. Nothing in these terms takes away rights those licences give you.
6. Restrictions
You must not copy, adapt, sell, share or publish the kit or any part of it except as part of your website; use it for another business or website; remove or hide the footer credit while subscribed; claim the design as your own; or submit it to a template marketplace.
7. Footer credit
Your website shows a small "Website by Webty" credit in its footer while you're subscribed. Local copies don't include it.
8. Local copies
- When you've paid the £199 local copy fee and we've supplied your copy, you have a permanent, non-exclusive licence to use that copy for the same business and on the same domain.
- You can host it anywhere and edit its content. You can't use its design for another business or website, or sell or share it.
- If you sell your business, the local copy licence can go with it, with our written agreement, which we won't unreasonably refuse.
9. When the licence ends
- Your licence for a website ends when its plan ends: 90 days after you archive it, if you don't restore it, or when we end the plan under the Terms of sale.
- When it ends, you must stop using the kit, except for any local copy you've paid for.
- If you seriously break these licence terms, we may end your licence and the website plan it belongs to.
